Andy Morgen has written a simple tool to replace the Devices and Printers dialog specifically for VDI (Session-based as well as Virtual Machine-based).
a better way is to enable the old printers into the control panel. Even works on windows 2012.
regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace Create a New Key {2227a280-3aea-1069-a2de-08002b30309d}
On the right hand Pane Edit the Default Key and give it the value Printers
